Swarovski Flat Backs Hotfix carry a hot-melt adhesive on the reverse. Heat activates the adhesive, pressure helps it bond with the carrier material, and the bond hardens as it cools. The correct temperature, pressure and application time depend on the crystal, the material and the application process. For selection, round Hotfix crystals commonly use SS size designations, while shaped articles may be specified in millimeters. Shape, color and effect are distinct choices, and available combinations vary by article and size.

Hotfix or No Hotfix?

The main difference is the fixing system. Flat Backs Hotfix have a pre-applied heat-activated adhesive, while Swarovski Flat Backs No Hotfix require a separate compatible adhesive or another supported setting method. Swarovski Hotfix crystals, sometimes called iron-on crystals, are a practical choice for repeat textile decoration when the material can safely accept the required heat and pressure.

Check the Material Before Hotfix Application

Not every textile or surface is equally suitable for Hotfix. Heat resistance, pressure resistance, surface properties and absorbency should be checked before application. Water-repellent finishes, tightly woven surfaces and other low-absorbency materials can reduce bonding performance, so testing the actual material before production is important.
